    Geography
The West Riding encompassed 1,771,562 acres (7,169 km²) from Sheffield in the south to Sedbergh in the north and from Slaidburn in the west to Adlingfleet in the east.
Unlike most English counties that were divided into hundreds, because of its size, Yorkshire was divided first into Thrydings (ancient Norse word for thirds), which were called three Ridings (North, East & West) and the City of York (the definition of which is inside the city walls), which is not part of any Riding. Each Riding was then divided into wapentakes, a division comparable to the hundreds of southern England. The wapentakes of the West Riding were Agbrigg and Morley, Barkston Ash, Ewcross, Claro, Osgoldcross, Skyrack, Staincliffe, Staincross, Strafforth, Tickhill.
The southern industrial district, considered in the broadest application of the term, extended northward from Sheffield to Skipton and eastward from Sheffield to Doncaster, covering less than one-half of the Riding. Within this district were Barnsley, Batley, Bradford, Brighouse, Dewsbury, Doncaster, Halifax, Huddersfield, Keighley, Leeds, Morley, Ossett, Pontefract, Pudsey, Rotherham, Sheffield, Todmorden (partly in Lancashire until 1888 when it became wholly in Yorkshire where it remains to this day), and Wakefield. Major centres elsewhere in the Riding included Harrogate, and Ripon.
Within the industrial region, other urban districts included Bingley, Bolton on Dearne, Castleford, Cleckheaton, Elland, Featherstone, Handsworth, Hoyland Nether, Liversedge, Mexborough, Mirfield, Normanton, Rawmarsh, Rothwell, Saddleworth, Shipley, Skipton, Sowerby Bridge, Stanley, Swinton, Thornhill, Wath-upon-Dearne, Wombwell and Worsborough. Outside the industrial region were Goole, Ilkley, Knaresborough and Selby. The West Riding also contained a large rural area to the north including the Yorkshire Dales National Park.Ewcross - Staincliffe West - Staincliffe East - Claro Lower - Strafforth and Tickhill Lower - Morley - Skyrack Upper - Claro Upper - Skyrack Lower - Barkston Ash

    LEEDS

    Music and The Beatles information
    The Beatles
The Beatles are the world's most successful and best-loved pop group.
Liverpool born and bred, the four band members - Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and John Lennon - came to local attention through their regular gigs at The Cavern, where they were spotted by local businessman Brian Epstein. Epstein became their manager and the band signed a record deal with Parlophone Records.
The Beatles released numerous hit singles, which mark the band's journey from their r'n'b roots through to their later experimental work. Songs like "Love Me Do", "Eleanor Rigby", "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Let It Be" remain much-loved pop classics. To the distress of fans all over the world, the band split in 1970 and went their separate ways.

John, Paul, George and Ringo all went on to have successful solo careers. Paul is still releasing records today, as is Ringo. Two of the Beatles are sadly no longer with us: John Lennon died a tragic death in 1980 and George Harrison finally lost his brave fight against cancer in 2001.
The Beatles' legacy lives on in today's pop music, with many modern day artists citing albums like "Revolver" and "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" as major influences on their own musical style.

    Cavern in Liverpool
The Liverpool sim consists of two main streets, the dock-side promenade and the famous Matthew Street. Liverpool features many atmospheric pubs, including The Cavern, where The Beatles were born.
Is it the Cavern Club or the Cavern Pub? For us it was a bit confusing to figure out exactly where the Beatles played their first 274 professional gigs since both establishments are across the "street" (it's more like an alleyway) from each other. Nevertheless, we were assured that although the original "Cavern Club" had been demolished, in the early 1970s, its original bricks were used to reconstruct the stage and audience area exactly as they existed during the Beatle era. And, apparently, in the exact location although nobody seemed willing to swear to it. Either way, Liverpool is where it all started and we were happy to be there!

The Cavern Pub, opposite the Cavern Club features an exterior wall with the
names of all the artists who have played at the Cavern Club since it opened
    in 1957.
    www.visitliverpool.com/site/cavern-pub-p7622

Merseyside is divided into two parts by the Mersey estuary: the Wirral is located on the west side of the estuary upon the Wirral Peninsula; the rest of the county is located on the east side. The northern part of Merseyside borders onto Lancashire to the north, Greater Manchester to the east, both parts border Cheshire to the south.
    Identity
To express location within the Merseyside area by the preposition on - thus "on Merseyside" as opposed to "in Merseyside" - was traditionally the more usual. However, the logic of suggestions in support of this from some quarters (that, after all, one would always be "on” the side of the Mersey, not "in" it) falls down; since it is, in fact, entirely possible to be situated [both] "in" or "on" [either] “side” of the river Mersey and area(s) thus designated. Therefore, more recent usage tends to draw distinctions between the geographical "Merseyside" - for which "on" is considered appropriate - and the Metropolitan county of "Merseyside", for which "in" is used.
MORI polls in the boroughs of Sefton and Wirral in the 2000s showed that more residents in these boroughs identified strongly to Merseyside than to Lancashire or Cheshire respectively (but was less likely to be "very strong" as opposed to "fairly strong").

However a separate 'City region' comprising of Merseyside and Halton is more officially recognised as Greater Merseyside although it has also been referred to as Liverpool City Region.

Hoy en día The Beatles y Liverpool parecen sinónimos.

    The Caven Club in Liverpool
The Cavern Club is a rock and roll club at 10 Mathew Street, Liverpool, England, where Brian Epstein was introduced to the Beatles on 9 November 1961.
The Beatles performed here no less than 292 times in the early 1960s. Today’s Cavern, reconstructed using the original bricks and built on the same
    site, opened in 1984.
It is a ‘must-see’ for Beatles fans and it’s still one the best venues in Liverpool to watch live music. The live music programme offers a wide range from tribute to contemporary – catch a performance most nights at the club and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
The Caven Club belongs to the following groups:
Art North West and United Kingdom

<< PrevThe Cavern Quarter - Mathew Street Night Life
    www.mathew.st/gallery.php?Gallery=CavernQtr...

    Local attractions
The county of Derbyshire offers many attractions for both tourists and local people. The county offers the spectacular Peak District scenery such as Mam Tor, Kinder Scout, and other more metropolitan attractions like Bakewell, Buxton, and Derby. Local places of interest include; Bolsover Castle, Castleton, Chatsworth House, Crich Tramway Museum, Cascades Gardens , DovedaleHaddon Hall, Heights of Abraham, and the Matlock Bath.
In the north of the county, three large reservoirs, Howden, Derwent and Ladybower, were built during the early part of the 20th century to supply the rapidly growing populations of Sheffield, Derby and Leicester with drinking water. The land around these is now extensively used for leisure pursuits like walking and cycling, as the surrounding catchment area of moorland is protected from development, as part of the Peak District National Park.
There are many properties and lands in the care of the National Trust, located in Derbyshire that are open to the public such as Calke Abbey, Hardwick Hall, High Peak Estate, Ilam Park, Kedleston Hall, Longshaw Estate near Hathersage, and Sudbury Hall on the Staffordshire Border.

    Capital: MATLOCK
    map of Matlock Derbyshire -
    Coordenadas: 53° 8′ 24″ N, 1° 33′ 0″ W

Matlock is the county town of Derbyshire, England. It is situated at the south eastern edge of the Peak District, and is twinned with the French town Eaubonne. The former spa resort Matlock Bath lies immediately south of the town on the A6.
Matlock is nine miles south west of Chesterfield, surrounded by the cities of Derby (19 miles), Sheffield (20 miles) and Nottingham (29 Miles). The A6 road continues to the Metropolitan areas of Stockport (30 miles) and Manchester (45 miles away). Although officially occupying a central England position geographically, Matlock is in the west of Derbyshire in what is known as the Derbyshire Dales which includes the towns of Wirksworth, Bakewell and Ashbourne. Industry in the area is now relatively low since the decline of the mill industry and job opportunities are quite poor apart from tourism and administration jobs. Many now travel to Chesterfield and the South Yorkshire conurbation for work.[citation needed] In 2005, the Government paper The Northern Way suggested to include Matlock into a newly formed Sheffield City Region which ultimately mean the redesign of regional and county councils. However to date there is no set time agenda for this to happen.
    Hall Leys Park
The tram shelter from Crown Square is now in Hall Leys Park, a large Victorian park next to the River Derwent which opened in 1898. The park boasts a miniature railway, bandstand and a boating pond, with the oldest running powered boats in Britain, for many years, as well as tennis courts and a war memorial. There is an ongoing project to update and upgrade all the parks in the Matlock area - Hall Leys Park was the first to benefit from this and the children's play area has been greatly modernised. There has also been a skateboard park added replacing grasstennis courts. The park hosts an arts festival, Matlock Live, every June and the Matlock Victorian Christmas Weekend on the first weekend of December.
    Bank Road
Bank road runs from Crown Square up Matlock Bank, a steep hill which gives the road its name, to Wellington Street. Although many consider the whole incline to be Bank Road, just over half-way up beyond Smedley Street the road is called Rutland Street. Bank Road has many local landmark buildings along it - from the bottom of the hill (Crown Square) travelling north:***The Crown Hotel - the original site of the hotel which gave its name to Crown Square is now a building society office. The Crown is now a Wetherspoon'spub just along Bakewell Road.

***Derbyshire Dales District Council Offices - the home of Derbyshire Dales District Council.

***Matlock Methodist & United Reformed Church
***Old Sunday School which is now a B&B.
***Old Methodist Church which, until recently, housed the Matlock Wurlitzer.
***County Hall - the home of Derbyshire County Council since the 1950s, formerly Smedley's Hydro. Part of the County Hall complex is seen in Women in Love, Ken Russell'sOscar winning 1969 film. As the Brangwen sisters walk out of their house (in reality No. 80, New Street) near the beginning of the film they are seen walking towards Bank Road.
***Smedley Street which traverses Matlock Bank and has its own parade of shops and a post office (now closed).
    ***The Gate public house
NB. Beyond Smedley Street Bank Road is actually Rutland Street.***The Old Tram Depot which is now a garage and car repair centre.
***Rockside Hydro an imposing building with views across Matlock, now converted into flats.
    Youth Hostels
The Youth Hostels Association has its national headquarters on Dimple Road, Matlock. Despite the close proximity of the HQ, the YHA announced in 2005 that they would be closing down the Matlock Hostel which is situated on Bank Road.

    WEST BRIDGFORD
    Coordenadas: 52° 55′ 12″ N, 1° 7′ 48″ W
    www.westbridgford.net/
West Bridgford is a town in the county of Nottinghamshire, England. West Bridgford is a suburb of Nottingham, despite being outside of the administrative boundaries of the City of Nottingham. It lies south of the city boundary, delimited by the River Trent, and forms the largest town in the borough of Rushcliffe...
...and is also the Administrative centre of Nottinghamshire with County Hall situated on its side of the river.
As part of the Rushcliffe Constituency its MP is The Rt Hon Kenneth Clarke, QC (Conservative Party). The headquarters of Nottinghamshire County Council moved to the town in 1959 from the traditional county town of Nottingham. The town is enclosed by the A52 and the A6011 (former A52).
History . Public Transport . Bus Services . Bridges
    Geography
The northern boundary of West Bridgford is the River Trent, spanned by two road bridges, Trent Bridge and Lady Bay Bridge, and two pedestrianised bridges consisting of a suspension bridge and a toll bridge near the Ferry Inn linking nearby Wilford village with the Meadows area of Nottingham city. The pedestrianised bridges link particularly well with cycle routes to Nottingham city, railway station and the University areas making several rapid, safe, car-free routes available.
Two spans of the original mediaeval bridge still remain, surrounded by a traffic island on the south side of the river adjacent to Trent Bridge.
    Architecture and Housing
The central West Bridgford area has a rich diversity of buildings, mostly Victorian, although the larger properties are being demolished for development as no protection exists for common housing stock. St. Giles Church is medieval but heavily restored at the end of the nineteenth century.
    House Prices
The average price of a home in West Bridgford is £231,454 which is just above the national average.
The average price of a detached home is £274,505, which is well above the national average. A semi-detached house is £240,093, a terraced house is £159,216 and a flat is £114,371. These are all above the national average.

Nottingham to the north . Holme Pierrepont to the north‐east . Gamston to the south‐east . Edwalton to the south . Clifton to the south‐west . Wilford to the north‐west.
West Bridgford should not be confused with East Bridgford, which lies some miles away and is much smaller.
    Pubs and Restaurants
As West Bridgford expanded in the Victorian and Edwardian periods The West Bridgford Protection Society was formed that worked hard to prevent any licensed premises being opened in West Bridgford. This has meant that there have been a relatively small number of pubs in the area until recent years. In fact there was no licenced premise of any kind until 1938; at that date the Trent Bridge Inn was still in Nottingham.
In the late 1930s, planning was granted for the Wolds Hotel, effectively a pub (on Loughborough Road) and the Test Match Hotel on Gordon Road. Many of these establishments are called 'Inns' as public houses were prohibited in West Bridgford, but hotels were thought to be more acceptable. In reality, places like the Test Match never operated as a hotel. The Test Match was refurbished a few years ago by its then owners, Hardy and Hansons Kimberley Brewery, and was recognised as the best refurbishment in Britain by CAMRA, reflecting the care and attention given to preserving its distinctive art deco features (which were recognised as important by English Heritage). Hardy and Hansons has since been taken over by Greene King.
March 1970 saw Nottingham Forest Sportsmens Club open its doors to the fans from the Football Club whose name it bears. It was their determination to establish a base from which to follow 'their team' that converted the building immediately outside the Football Ground as a licensed Social Club. Although it now operates independently from the Football Club and its membership has a much broader, although predominantly sporting interest, and fully refurbished (March 2008)it now provides an accessible and relaxing alternative to local pubs.
West Bridgford nightlife has been growing in recent years, particularly after the opening of new drinking establishments such as La Vina (ex-Bar des Amis, September 2007), Monkey Tree(under re-development September 2007) and the Pearl. Other drinking establishments include the long running West End Cabaret on Central Avenue, and the Stratford Haven on Stratford Road.
Along with many established local restaurants a new branch of Pizza Express has opened on Central Avenue. Fire&Ice, a bar/restaurant on Bridgford Road, featuring an authentic wood-fired pizza oven, has quickly become popular as a venue for late-night drinking along with the very recently refurbished Oriental Pearl. Many of the pubs and bars in West Bridgford are frequented by people who live south of Nottingham, before heading onto the larger bars and clubs in Nottingham itself. However, increased interest in West Bridgford has attracted around 20-40% more people from town to stay in West Bridgford according to local taxi firms who say they seem to take more and more people from Nottingham to West Bridgford every week.

    Predeterminado Nottingham

Things to do > Entertainment > Nightlife
Having a good time, all the time
With more pubs, bars and restaurants in one square mile than any other European city, Nottingham has always known how to have a good time. There are four distinct night time hotspots in Nottingham:
    • Castle Wharf is a recent development that modernised the city’s canal side. Warehouses have been converted into contemporary bars and restaurants with attractive waterside terraces
    • Hockley and the Lace Market offers stylish independent bars down cobbled streets
    • Forman Street and The Cornerhouse make for a genuinely cosmopolitan evening, thanks to pavement cafes, bars and restaurants
    • in the Old Market Square, you’ll find all the big chain pubs and late-night party bars.
    • Hunting for heritage? It doesn’t get any more authentic than Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, reputed to be the world’s oldest inn. Carved into the rock beneath Nottingham Castle, this is a uniquely atmospheric venue. Its sister pub, The Bell Inn, was built in 1437 and is one of the most famous pubs in Nottingham. Meanwhile, The Cock and Hoop is a tastefully restored, traditional Victorian alehouse. Decorated with stylish antiques and fine artwork, it serves excellent ales and wines in the heart of the Lace Market.
In recent years, the emergence of a buzzing late night bar scene has begun to rival its famous nightclub scene. Much of the action happens within the rejuvenated Lace Market/Hockley area where dozens of fashionable bars like Bluu, Brass Monkey and Dogma have emerged. Nearby, Cabaret and Jongleurs host contemporary comedy. And two good retreats from the masses are The Loft, a groovy outpost on the bohemian Mansfield Road, and Moog, an unpretentious-yet-hip bar in student-friendly Radford.
Of course, there are numerous wonderful country pubs scattered across rural Nottinghamshire. At Colston Bassett in the south of the county, for instance, you’ll find The Martins Arms - this award winning pub has received commendations for its impressive selection of beers, wines and malt whiskies.
    Club culture
Nottingham has a well deserved reputation for great clubbing. If anthems in a massive club is your style, Nottingham's Gatecrasher is the perfect place for you. Oceana is a multimillion pound superclub with plush themed rooms. If your music tastes are more underground, The Bomb and Stealth play the latest electronica. Indie fans, meanwhile, can count on The Rig for the latest hits, your favourite classics and the odd celebrity. For a night of stylish clubbing, Media is a stunning converted theatre with tiered dance floors, and the funky Market Bar features sumptuous décor and late night grooves.
